Why People Are Moving To The Coeur d'Alene Idaho Area
The word is out, the Coeur d’Alene area is a great place to relocate
Hello, this is Julie Paterson and my most important job is helping you decide if the Coeur d’Alene area is the best choice for your big move.
I will explain my favorite 16 reasons as briefly as I can.
1) Happy and polite people.
My first vacation here in 2006 I noticed how friendly the people were. I didn’t see any of the hurry-up rudeness I get in other areas. The kids are polite and will hold the door open for you, and actually wait until you walk through the door. And I heard a lot of ‘yes, ma’am,’ like I remember in the 1970’s.
I watched a lady get a flat and 2 cars pulled over to help her change her tire.
After living here for almost 12 years nothing has changed. People are just happy to live here and they show it every day as I move around this town.
2) Lower cost of living.
When I moved here my husband and I both agreed that this was the 50% State. Meaning that we could spend 50% less money to live the same lifestyle. Taking into account the water fees, insurance, natural gas & electricity, home costs, taxes, and gasoline prices this makes sense.
3) Outdoor adventures.
Outdoor recreation is better than any other place in America I have found. The natural beauty entices you to get off the couch and go for a 2-mile hike. In the winter spend the weekend’s snow skiing with your family. Taking our ATV vehicles up the mountain trails right from our driveway is an exciting recreation. Enjoying our boat on Lake Coeur d’Alene fishing and pulling the kids on the innertube keeps the family together and happy.
Where can you catch salmon in the morning. Drive your ATV up the mountain before lunch. Take a zipline ride through the trees after lunch. And go hunting for white-tail deer, or elk, with a twenty-minute drive before sunset? No other place I can think of. And the hiking trails are beautifully magnificent.
4) Art and Culture community.
Downtown Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint have an active Arts & Culture community. With scheduled art walks and many art galleries around town. Entertaining both the tourists and the locals.
5) Four Seasons.
My family loves the four seasons. Every year the seasons are never exactly the same. Some years the summer temperatures do not start until July 4th. Other years the summer temperatures begin in May or June. Winters always bring snow, but sometimes the snow melts quickly and other years our schools have one to three snow days.
Spring is invigorating. The snow melts and in 3 weeks new plants spring to life. Fall is beautiful and announces that Summer is over and it’s time to go buy a new jacket.
Nature uses beautiful colors to let you know the season is changing.
6) Best Coffee City.
Coeur d’Alene was awarded the best coffee city and after you spend some time here you will know why. Finding happy people to hang out with in the many coffee shops is a great pastime. The local coffee creations are award-winning and make for a great caffeine experience.
7) Outstanding Restaurants.
Who would think the Coeur d’Alene area would have some of the best restaurants. Pleasing the pallet of people that have lived in big cities all their lives. I was shocked to find restaurants that looked like a hole in the wall that are better than where I ate in Southern California.
Here are some of the restaurant gems I have discovered. Satay Bistro, Syringa, Fleur De Sel, Wolf Lodge Steak House, Angelo’s.
8) Great Healthcare.
Baby Boomers want to know the area they live in has great healthcare. Kootenai Hospital is ranked as Exceptional health care by patients, peers and national organizations.
Kootenai Health is ranked for excellent service, state-of-the-art treatments, community support, and compassionate care.
I have Doctor clients that are purchasing homes in the Coeur d’Alene area. They are being recruited from other states to take care of our residents.
9) Live and Let Live Mindset.
Our town is full of people happy to get away from big city life. People who are drawn to this area are very like-minded.
People that live here are more interested in how your family is doing. How successful were you during the recent hunting season? How many new guns did you get for Christmas? Which marina do you keep your boat in during the summer season? What Church do you attend?
We enjoy the simple things and we love the easier lifestyle.
10) Great Place To Raise Kids.
When I moved here in 2008 I quickly noticed how much this community appreciates family first. Families put the kids first and many of the Moms do not work a full-time job. Fathers can work full-time and make enough money to support the family and live in a nice home in a safe neighborhood. I can go to one of our many parks on a Monday and see Moms with their kids laughing and playing.
11) Active Retirement Population.
Baby Boomers are moving here looking for an active life in a beautiful setting. Tired of the big city life and love the lower cost of living. Idaho is the fastest-growing population of Baby Boomers in America. Discovering our beautiful area as their best choice to live the retirement life.
12) Nice Police.
After living in the Coeur d’Alene area for 11 years I know the police are nice.
When my son had soccer tryouts at Canfield middle school it was packed with parents. And many of their cars were parked on Dalton street along the fence illegally because the parking lot was full.
The police arrived and came to the announcer booth and said we will give you 30 minutes to move your cars before we start giving out tickets.
On Halloween night I had 7 teenagers in my car and my husband was driving 35 in a 25-mile zone. The police pulled us over and he handed out candy to all the kids. He checked my husband’s driver’s license and insurance then told him to slow down and be safe. But no ticket was given.
When the police drive down the street, kids and parents wave to them. Gotta Love Coeur d’Alene.
Expedia.com gave Coeur d’Alene the award of, Cleanest City in America. The people that live here love their little town on the Lake and they take pride in its appearance. Our residents don’t litter because they love where they live.
14) High Concentration of Church’s.
When I first moved here I was amazed at how many churches were available in this small town. Church and Family is the Heart of the Coeur d’Alene area like no other area I have ever seen.
15) Country Living Close To International Airport.
Love living in this rural small-town and appreciate the amenities of modern-day luxuries with an International airport a traffic-free 40-minute drive away.
We have a mall, Costco, state of the art hospital, modern police and fire stations. Teslas, lots of 4-wheel drive pickup trucks, horses, modern roads and highways.
16) New Technology Start-Up Area.
You would never think that this area is a start-up hub for new technology companies. Innovation Collective has developed a great place to start a new business and get investor funding. Companies developing new products in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, self-driving vehicles, and drones are growing jobs in the Coeur d’Alene area.
